Mission of the Department of Mathematics

The mission of the School of Studies in Mathematics is as follows:

  • To excel in providing high quality Mathematical skills to the students.

  • To attend the mathematical needs of the institute and the community.

  • To provide students with a wide spectrum of valuable courses with rigorous training/tutorials that enables them to pursue their future.

  • To make research scholars to develop the mathematical thoughts and applying it to solve complex real valued problems, designing mathematical models to meet the requirements.

  • To encourage both research scholars and faculty members of the Department to be the exposures of different research environments in India and abroad.

Aims:

  1. Strengthening the logical reasoning which is the main ingredient to understand

           Mathematical concepts.

  1. Create more interest in the subject and motivate students for self learning.

  2. Developing the Mathematical skills among the students and preparing them to take up a career in research.

Objectives:

  1. To make students understand the techniques of proofs in Mathematics and apply suitable techniques to tackle problems.

  2. To inculcate the habit of making observations and experimentation and arrive at the final result.

  3. Make student acquire the communication skill to present technical Mathematics so as to take up a career in Teaching Mathematics at various levels including schools, colleges, universities, etc.

  4. To develop inter-disciplinary approach of learning between Mathematics and other disciplines.

  5. To use technology as significant aid in mathematics learning.

  6. To revisit the fundamental concepts principles of the discipline and strengthen them.

  7. To encourage collaborative learning through group activities, hands-on learning and concretizing mathematical concepts.

  8. To provide motivation and support in research and development.

Programme Offered :

  • B.Sc. (Hon’s) Mathematics

  • M.Sc. Mathematics (Choice Based Credit System)

  • PG Diploma in Vedic Mathematics (PGDVM)

  • PG Diploma in Biomathematics (PGDBM)

  • Ph.D. (Mathematics)

Profile of the Courses:

  • M.Sc. Mathematics:  It is a postgraduate course in Mathematics. The course has a duration of 2-years which is divided into 4 semesters. The main aim of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge to the students in advanced applied as well as pure mathematics and prepare them for various research activities. Some of the common career opportunities after the course are teaching in school, Jobs in Airport authority of India, Jobs in different government departments like Financial Analyst, Statistician, Economist, Banking, Railways, Data Scientist etc.

  • B.Sc. (Hon’s) Mathematics:  It is a undergraduate course in Mathematics. The course has a duration of 3-years which is divided into 6 semesters.

  • Ph.D: Doctoral degree programs in Mathematics are typically research based. On average, these programs take five years to complete. In addition to taking courses specific to a chosen specialty, students concentrate on a research project in their area of focus, which is intended to produce a dissertation. Holding a Ph.D. in Mathematics typically leads to a career in research. Many Ph.D. holders work in academia, although public and private career paths are also available.

  • PGDVM (Post Graduate Diploma in Vedic Mathematics): Vedic Maths is an arrangement of thinking and scientific working dependent on antiquated indian lessons called Veda. It is quick, productive and simple to learn and utilize. Vedic science, which improves number juggling and arithmetical activities has progressively discovered acknowledgment the world over. Some of the common career opportunities after the course are Model Validation Analyst, Quantitative Analyst, Business Intelligence and Data Analyst, Investigator/Assistant Manager, Portfolio Risk Analyst etc.

  • PGDBM (Post Graduate Diploma in Bio-mathematics): Biomathematics is an interdisciplinary career that integrates mathematics, biology, and computer science. This diploma best suits students who want to answer questions and meet challenges. It's for students that love data and can manipulate different types of information into one interdisciplinary solution.

Biomathematics Careers with a Focus in Math Include: Computer programmer, Computer systems analyst, Database administrator, Economist, Financial analyst, Operations research analyst, Physicists and astronomer, Postsecondary teacher, Statistician, Survey researcher.

Biomathematics Careers with a Focus in Biology Include: Agricultural and food scientist, Biochemists and biophysicist, Pharmacist, Molecular biologist etc.
