SCHOOL OF STUDIES IN FORENSIC SCIENCE
The School of Studies in Forensic Science, located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, was established in 2021. It offers Bachelor's and Master's programs in Forensic Science. The department focuses on inclusive education and research opportunities, aiming to create professional experts who can contribute meaningfully to law enforcement and the justice system. At the end of the coursework, students have the opportunity to work as forensic experts, police officers, criminologists, expert witnesses in courts, security consultants, and in various government and private investigative agencies as well a pursue higher education and research work and much more.

INFRASTRUCTURE
The infrastructure of the department includes the following-
spacious and well furnished classrooms
a hall with ample sitting arrangements for hosting events, seminars, and larger gatherings
well equipped laboratories including physical, chemical and biological units and instruments including compound microscopes, UV-Visible spectrophotometer etc. The Forensic Physics Lab focuses on analyzing trace evidence like fingerprints, tool marks, shoeprints, and ballistics. It includes equipment such as comparison microscopes and forensic photography tools to document and examine physical evidence at crime scenes. The Forensic Biology Lab specializes in analyzing biological materials like blood, semen, hair, and DNA. It uses microscopes, DNA extraction kits, and PCR machines for genetic profiling and blood analysis to link suspects or victims to crimes. The Forensic Chemistry Lab examines substances like drugs, poisons, and explosives. Techniques such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Infrared Spectroscopy identify chemical compositions in evidence, aiding in drug identification, toxicology, and explosives analysis.

ACTIVITIES
1. Two Day workshop on Forensic Science and Research methodology
Successfully conducted a 2 day workshop on Forensic Science and Research methodology from 11th of September, 2024 to 12th of September, 2024 by expert lecturer Mr. Bhavesh Mali (Institute of Forensic Science, Mumbai).
The Department of Forensic Science organized a two-day hands-on workshop on "Forensic Science & Expert Session on Research Methodology" from September 11 to September 12, 2024. The workshop focused on key areas such as Crime Scene Investigation, Questioned Document and Handwriting Analysis, Fingerprint Recording and Development, as well as the Journey of Paper Publications and Research Tools and Techniques.
The sessions were led by distinguished resource persons, including Mr. Bhavesh Mali from the Institute of Forensic Science, Mumbai, and Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, Vice Chancellor of Vikram University, Ujjain. The workshop saw active participation from both UG and PG students of the Department of Forensic Science.
The workshop was convened by Dr. Ganpat Ahirwar, Head of the School of Studies in Forensic Science. Dr. Salil Singh, the Department Coordinator, and Ms. Anjali Verma, the Organizing Co-ordinator, played key roles in the event's execution. The objective of the workshop was to provide students with practical knowledge of forensic science and insight into the journey of paper publications, focusing on research methodology and techniques.
The two-day workshop began with an inaugural ceremony, followed by expert sessions from Mr. Bhavesh Mali. He discussed forensic science principles, including the Law of Individuality, Exchange, and Comparison, using examples like fingerprints and coins. The students received hands-on training in crime scene investigation, securing the scene, evidence collection, and documentation. Day 2 covered fingerprint development, paper manufacturing, and chromatography. The final session focused on research methodology, paper publications, and tools. The workshop concluded with feedback, thanks, and a photography session, providing valuable insights for future forensic professionals.
2.Successfully conducted a one day visit to Rau FSL
The students of 3rd Semester, 2nd year were taken to a one day visit to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, RAU, Indore on 16th of October, 2024. The visit was guided by faculties, Ms. Anjali Verma and Ms. Shalini Solanki. The students were enlightened about the various divisions including DNA, physics, Biology and serology, chemistry and toxicology and many more. The students was guided by the director of the FSL Dr. I.P Thakur, Dr. Pinky Mehrde (Scientific officer of the biology divison) and Dr. Anubha Gang and Dr. Avinash Kuri (Scientific officers of the DNA division), and Dr. Rajendra Chokhare ( Scientific Assistant of toxicology division).
3.Expert lecture of Digitalworld
Successfully conducted an expert lecture on Digital-World by Dr. Vivek Dubey, professor and Head of Department of Computer Science, LNCT, Bhopal on 2nd and 3rd or December, 2024. Dr. Vivek Dubey is also the proud founded of Curious InfoTech Solutions LLP
The two day expert lecture focused on
basic introduction to computer, it applications, its components and associated devices
Computer software an d operating systems including hardware and software, its types, system software and application software, types of OS and basic components of windows OS
Basic computer operations including functions of the Operating System such as managing Files and Folders, Creating, Copying, Moving, and Deleting Files Customizing the Desktop, Setting Wallpaper, Date, Time and Utilizing Tools such as Start Manu, Recycle Bin, My Computer, Using Help Features
Basics of MS word including introduction to MS word, Creating and Editing Documents, text Operations such as Selecting, Deleting and Replacing text Formatting such as Fonts, paragraphs, Line Spacsing, Margins, and Bullets/Numbering, Spell Check and Document Formatting
Internet and networking Introduction to the Internet: WWW and Web Browsers Computer Networks: LAN, WAN and Internet Applications of the Internet in Science and Biology Web Browsing, Search Engines, and Electronic Communication Creating and Managing Email Accounts
4.Ganesh Chaturthi celebration
The Department of Forensic Science, Vikram University, Ujjain, successfully celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi from 6th to 7th September 2024. The event was marked by the active participation and cooperation of the students, who took the initiative to organize and manage the entire celebration. They were involved in every aspect of the festival, from bringing and setting up the idol to decorating the space with traditional and vibrant decorations. The students also took responsibility for performing the rituals, offering prayers, and ensuring the smooth conduct of the celebration.
On the final day, the students organized a ceremonial immersion (Visarjan) of the idol, adhering to the customary rituals. Their unanimous efforts and dedication made the celebration a memorable and harmonious event, showcasing team spirit and cultural reverence. The department's successful Ganesh Chaturthi celebration not only reflected the students' organizational skills but also fostered a sense of unity and community within the department.
5.Teachers Day celebration
Teachers' Day at the Department of Forensic Science, Vikram University, was celebrated with great enthusiasm to honor and appreciate the contributions of faculty members. Held annually on September 5th, in recognition of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary, students organized speeches, performances, and presentations. These activities offered students a platform to express gratitude and acknowledge the guidance and support of their teachers. The celebration strengthens the bond between students and faculty, fostering an atmosphere of respect and admiration.
6. The following student, Mr. Amit Jha of 5th semester, 3rd year successfully completed a training program in Forensic cience Laboratory from 27th of July to 26th of September,2024 from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He was further awarded a letter of appreciation.
7. The following student Ms. Anjali Verma of 3rd semester, 2nd year received First position in Group dance (Folk dance) and received Second position in Group song (western) during inter-district Youth Festival 2024-25.
8. The following student Ms. Rishaney Bhargava actively participated in numerous activites some of which are mentioned below:
Successfully participated in the Guest lecture “Four legged detectives: The mastery of cadaver dogs” on 6th of September, “Forensic Liminology:Tracing Underwater mysteries” on 23rd August, “Domains of Cyber Security: Pathways for a rocking career” on 5th of October 2024 conducted by C.A.S.E. 23 official and many more.
Completed an internship cum training program from District Scene of Crime Mobile Unit (F.S.L. Ujjain) for a period of 30 days from 25th June to 25th July, 2024 along with an additional training at Fingerprint unit, Photography branch, Madhav Nagar Police Station and Women Police Station.
She is also a proud volunteer of Applied Forensic Research Science.
